The Santa Cruz Mountains offer a rich classroom where students will have the opportunity to experience science first hand. Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School offers unique opportunities to students, individually and collectively. Stuents will interact with the environment around them and engage in dynamic educational experiences. Furthermore, students will be challenged to grow through these new encounters with nature and each other. All curriculum is developed around the California State Science Standards.
The Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School maintains a Registered Nurse on staff whose time and oversight is included in our regular program rates. Our nurse is on site and on call every day to dose appropriate medications and address all specific health needs of students and chaperones. Our health center is staffed by a trained health aid from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm and may be staffed overnight.

The Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School utilizes the vehicle of experiential education to model our objectives and communicate science literacy to all students. We aim that every student goes home with a greater appreciation of our objectives: respect for others, stewardship actions, self confidence and teamwork, and wonder of nature.
Our curriculum is designed to meet many of the State of California Science Standards for grades 5-8. We have produced an excellent workbook that is given to every student and each teacher who participates in our program. The science standards that our program aims to meet are listed on our Science Standards page.
